D. Iunius Silanus became a citizen of Nova Roma a.d. IV Non. Quin. Fl. Vedio (II) M. Cassio (II) cos. MMDCCLIV a.u.c.. He soon established himself in public life and was appointed governor of Britannia a.d. III Kal. Mar. M. Octavio L. Sulla (II) cos. MMDCCLV a.u.c..[1] He was elected quaestor a.d. IX Kal. Ian. that year,[2] and was elevated to the senate by censores a.d. III Kal. Ian. the following year.[3] He ran unsuccessfully for the praetura K. Buteone T. Labieno cos. MMDCCLVI a.u.c..[4]

In public affairs he was a proponent of close adherence to Roman practice[5] and was associated with the group which called itself the boni, in particular his gentilis Dec. Iunius Palladius Invictus. He was largely supportive of the higher magistrates M. Octavio L. Sulla (II) cos. MMDCCLV a.u.c. but largely opposed those of the following year.

He became less active in public life over the course of the year Cn. Salvio Cn. Equitio cos. MMDCCLVII a.u.c., stepping down as governor Kal. Iun. , and left Nova Roma prid. Id. Mar. Fr. Apulo C. Laenate cos. MMDCCLVIII a.u.c..
