Election MMDCCLXVI (Nova Roma)/Statia Cornelia Valeriana Iuliana Aeternia
Sta. Cornelia Juliana Aeternia Omnibus in foro S.P.D.
It is time again to choose who should be Consul. I am glad we have two candidates, better than one or none. I have been a citizen of Nova Roma for almost 15 years. Since the age of 18 I have been with this organization, in some senses Nova Roma and I have grown up together. This year I have thrown my hat in the ring as candidate for consul. Now I am sure, based on past years, there may be a small peeping sound of protest at that. I am used to this. Let me tell you a bit about myself.
I believe in Nova Roma (yes at times in the past less than now, but given our turbulent history I think many have been at that point and rebounded). I work hard and play even harder. I am not stuffy. Equally I am no "push-over". I will try to negotiate first but if a point of principle is at stake I will defend it. I may not burn the house down as a price, but expect principled defense from mew of that I hold dear in Nova Roma. We cannot be bound by the past but we can and must be guided in our decision making by it. I made a list of things I feel about myself are important to bring to your attention.
- 1. I have never resigned my citizenship.
- 2. I have been elected into the positions of Rogator, Curule Aedile and Praetor, all successfully
- 3. I am also a Senator
- 4. I have served as scribe on several cohorts (currently serving as scribe for the Praetura)
- 5. I was the youngest person in NR History to form a Sodalitas
- 6. I am tend to be active on a local/provincial level where I have met many other citizens
My goals for my consulship are, if elected:
- 1. The continuation of provincial reform
- 2. The initiation of Sodalitas reform
- 3. Continuing the development and enhancement of the growth of Nova Roma
I will answer questions may have on the above, and this is the general framework. The "how" and "what" of the above will follow on from consultation with the senate and people of Nova Roma. I can capture it as initiative NOT inertia. The last two years have seen the repair of the senate and laws of Nova Roma. There remains much to do. It likely will not all get done in one year, but that theme of growth will continue if I am elected.
I believe in Nova Roma as a "big tent", not an elitist and purist small sleeping bag. We need to attract people. We need to balance the budget. We need activity, real events. We need to engage past, present and future citizens and we can only engage and gain commitment from them if Nova Roma is seen to be moving out of the repair stage into the growth stage. If we demonstrate and give evidence, not just this year but in years to come, we have not only survived but prospered and our events are meaningful and real, be they online or face-to-face, then we will once again grip imaginations and inspire people to gift us their time and energy in building our community.
I thank you for your time. And good luck to all the candidates across the board.
Statia Cornelia Juliana Aeternia Marcus Pompeius Caninus
