Lex Petronia de Latinis sociisque (Nova Roma)

The benefits of socius status shall include, but shall not be limited, to the following: the right to post about and present the activities of the allied organization or individual in the forums of Nova Roma, the right to ask help, assistance and support for their projects from Nova Roma, the right to be presented, promoted and advertised by Nova Roma as the socii of Nova Roma, the right to seek internal legal remedies according to Nova Roman law.

I.A. Obtaining socius status

I.A.1. By application

Any individual or res publica (communities, societies, organizations) can request, and can be granted, socius status in Nova Roma. Any individuals who submit their macronational name and email address to the Censorial Office receive the socius status.

I.A.2. By invitation

Consuls, praetors, governors, the senate and the people can also grant socius status to individual persons and reenactment military units, the senate and the people can grant socius status to other res publicae (communities, societies, organizations, corporations).

I.A.3. By participation in our public and promitional forum

People who submit at least three posts to the FB group of NR are automatically granted socius status from the day of the enactment of this law. It is possible to refuse this status by the participant of the forum by unsubscribing from the forum. Their name registered for NR will be the one in which they are subscribed to the forum. If the posted is not an individual but a society, the society (and thus all of its members) receive the socius status. Socii, by accepting to be socii, agree that Nova Roma may promote and advertise them as socii of Nova Roma.

I.A.4. By being part of a legion

I.A.4.a. All members of a fully Nova Roman legion who are not yet registered as citizens of Nova Roma, or who deliberately wish not to be identified as Romans of Nova Roma, automatically receive socius status. Leaders of the legion shall only report their number at the time of the census.

I.A.4.b. All members of an allied Nova Roman legion who deliberately wish not to be identified as Romans of Nova Roma, automatically receive socius status. Leaders of the legion shall only report their number at the time of the census.

I.A.4.c. All members of a legion that is a friend of Nova Roma who are not yet registered as citizens of Nova Roma automatically receive socius status. Leaders of the legion shall only report their number at the time of the census.

I.B. Allies of Nova Roma: Socius or Latin citizen

I.B.1. Instead of socius status, the exact form of allied status for a Roman community (a reenactment group or a reconstructionist community), whether it be civilian or military, shall be Latin citizenship. Socius status is reserved in the first place for non-Roman or non-reconstructionist communities. There shall be at least one individual registered with Latin citizenship in the community so that the community can be granted Latin status. In the absence of such citizen, the community shall remain in simple socius status.

I.B.2. If the community is not Roman (but Etruscan, Italic, Greek or barbarian) or if it is not reenactment or reconstructionist, this distinction does not apply.

I.B.3. Allied legion status means Latin citizenship to the legion, but the friend of Nova Roma status means socius status to the legion: Roman reenactment legions remain socii which choose to be in the friend of Nova Roma status.

I.B.4. Members of the autonomous Nova Roman gladiatorial groups and allied gladiatorial groups shall receive socius status instead of Latin citizenship.

I.C. Terminology

The title awarded to socius individuals, legions or communities by the granting authority may vary between socius, amicus or socius et amicus, depending on the nature of the alliance.

I.D. Former use in Nova Roma

The socius status in Nova Roma that formerly existed shall not be associated with this new institution of Nova Roma, but they shall be considered as a now-obsolete appellation of the cives incensi among the cives Novi Romani optimo iure.

II. Latini

The benefits of Latin citizenship shall include, but shall not be limited, to the following: the right to post about and present the activities of the allied organization or individual in the forums of Nova Roma, the right to ask help, assistance and support for their projects from Nova Roma, the right to be presented, promoted and advertised by Nova Roma as Latin citizens (associate members) of Nova Roma, the right to seek internal legal remedies according to Nova Roman law.

II.A. Obtaining Latin citizenship

II.A.1. By application

II.A.1.a. Individuals or res publicae of Roman or Latin identity can request, and can be granted, Latin citizenship in Nova Roma.

II.A.1.b. Any individuals who submit their macronational name, country of residence, birth date and email address to the Censorial Office receive Latin citizenship. Roman name is optional, simply the macronational name, or a non-Roman ancient traditionalist name (such as Italic, Latin, Etruscan or barbarian) may also be possible.

II.A.2. By invitation

Consuls, praetors, governors, the senate and the people can also grant Latin status to Roman reenactment legions, and to individual members of already existing allied legions and gladiatorial groups. The censors, the senate and the people can grant Latin status to any individual. The senate and the people can grant Latin status to any res publica. ).

II.A.3. By being part of an allied legion

All members of an allied Nova Roman legion who are not yet registered as citizens of Nova Roma automatically receive the Latin citizenship. Leaders of the legion shall only report their number at the time of the census.

II.B. The Censorial Office shall maintain an Album Civium Latinorum.

III. Novi Romani sine suffragio

The benefits of civitas Nova Romana sine suffragio shall be the same as those of the full Nova Roman citizenship with the exception of right to vote and right to hold office.

III.A. Obtaining civitas Nova Romana sine suffragio

Regardless of membership in Nova Roma, all people who identify as Romans are considered the spiritual members of the Nova Roman nation. All such individuals in the world are informally preliminary cives Novi Romani sine suffragio, but unless they are registered in Nova Roma, they remain just part of the Nova Roman nation without citizenship. Any individual of Roman identity may decide officially to be enrolled into Nova Roma as a socius, a Latin citizen or a Nova Roman citizen.

III.A.1. By awarding

There shall be no regular mechanism for requesting civitas Nova Romana sine suffragio, it is a special status given to such communities or people connected to Nova Roma or to Nova Roman citizens who for any reason did not seek to become full citizens yet. Instead, individuals or res publicae of Roman identity who are not yet ready to become Nova Roman citizens can request, and can be granted, Latin citizenship in Nova Roma: the rules applied to this are in SECTION II. As a gesture of trust, honor and confidence, the senate and the people can grant civitas Nova Romana sine suffragio to existing Latin or socius communities or individuals. The Censorial Office can grant civitas Nova Romana sine suffragio to any individual.

III.A.2. By birth

Any individuals who are siblings, direct ancestors or descendants of a Nova Roman citizen receive the civitas Nova Romana sine suffragio as soon as their macronational name and Roman name are reported to the Censorial Office. Additional personal data, those usually registered for citizens, especially birth dates, may be optionally registered, as well. It is forbidden to register a sibling or direct ancestor or descendant of a Nova Roman citizen with the status of socius or Latin citizenship: the only two civic statuses they can be registered with shall be full citizen or civis Novus Romanus sine suffragio.

III.A.3. By being part of a fully Nova Roman legion

All members of a fully Nova Roman legion who are not yet registered as citizens of Nova Roma automatically receive the Nova Roman civitas sine suffragio as soon as their macronational name, Roman name and country of residence are known to the Censorial Office.

III.B. The Censorial Office shall maintain an Album Civium Novorum Romanorum Sine Suffragio.

IV. Various instructions

Only full Nova Roman citizens and cives Novi Romani sine suffragio are considered as Nova Roman legionaries of the legion. Latin citizens are considered Latin federate legionaries. All other types of members are considered as auxiliaries, whatever their kit and equipment may be.
