Subpages

Finally I have a few minutes to tell you about subpages. I'll use this as an example: "Vestal ceremony - Ludi Conditorum 2761 AUC (Nova Roma)". Since the vestal ceremony is part of the Ludi Conditorum, you could start on the L.C. page with a link like this: [[/Vestal ceremony]]. This makes "Vestal ceremony" a subpage of LC. You will see a breadcrumb trail on the top of the "Vestal ceremony" page. Also, if you use {{SUBPAGENAME}}, you will get "Vestal ceremony". You can also get the full page name or the parent page name automatically. Using this system you don't have to repeat the year and other stuff, or even the Nova Roma tag, because everything gets sorted together on Cat pages as a tree. So you get:

  1. simpler article names
  2. automatic breadcrumbs
  3. more powerful (granular) automatic naming inside templates that use the pagename magic words.

There is no limit to the number of layers. You could have "Aediles 2761/Ludi/Luci Conditorum/Vestal ceremony" without any problem. Let me know if you need more info or if you want help in making the pages into trees. Agricola 06:47, 2 March 2008 (CET)

Putting templates in categories

If we add a cat tag to a template, every page that uses that template ends up in the category as well. But it is good to have templates themselves in cats, so other people can find and use them. Here is how to do it. (look at this example: Template:Amphitheatricum

Put <onlyinclude> </onlyinclude> tags around the functional part of your template. Be careful not to add extra blank lines at the top or bottom. Now you can add a category tag. As long as the cat tag isn't inside those onlyincludes, the template will be in the cat but the pages that include the template won't.

Categories are "Templates" and "Content templates". The headers that you have been making are more like content templates I think. Could you add the cat tags please? Thanks! Agricola 08:52, 1 February 2008 (CET)

Archives

Thanks for doing those archives! My opinion is that the page names don't need to say ARCHIVE... The all caps is something we avoid, and it makes the page harder to link to. Since the pages are created after the fact, you could just drop in a note somewhere on the page saying so. Optime vale! Agricola 22:50, 28 January 2008 (CET)

I must agree with Agricola about caps and not only about them. Maybe this project of "archives" is good. To find general applicable solutions it was said that, before to start major changes, is better to discuss a little about them here or in the wiki list. If we are not going in the same line with all, this wiki will replace, at the end, the Minos' labyrinth.

Don't understand me wrong, amice. I really appreciate your contributions and they are good. To transform them in valuable one I think more attention must be paid to their extension in all wiki's fields.Titus Iulius Sabinus 23:12, 28 January 2008 (CET)

Edit summary

Salve. To make an edit summary is recommended for new pages, too. Two words in "Summary" section are enough to avoid a huge description with what was happen with that page. Exemples:" new page - archives", "latin corrections", "fixed link", "updates" and so on. Titus Iulius Sabinus 20:05, 28 January 2008 (CET)

Year category

Salve! When you make a page for a game or anything specifically for this year, could you add the tag for "Category:MMDCCLXI"? Also, don't forget to make an edit summary for each edit. Just a word or two is enough and it makes it easier to see what has been going on. Thanks! Agricola 01:12, 19 January 2008 (CET)

Please don't forget to put articles in a category. "Category:MMDCCLXI" is a good one to use for one-off sorts of things. We are working to get sub-pages activated. When that happens it will be much easier to keep related pages together. Agricola 01:45, 18 February 2008 (CET)

Names

Thanks for the articles like Regio Tennessee(Nova Roma) - but there should be a space before the parentheses, like Regio Tennessee (Nova Roma). A common style for this makes the names predictable, and thus, easier to link to. You can use the move tab on each article to fix these. Vale, Marcus Octavius Gracchus(t) 03:12, 9 March 2007 (CET)

Nice page. Try to use 'Show preview' before 'Save page'. Vale, Titus Iulius Sabinus 10:54, 10 March 2007

deleted personal page

Salve Luci Vitelli,

Sorry, I've had to delete Quintus Vitellius Avitus Vopiscus (Nova Roma)‎. We have a policy against personal pages for people who haven't held elective office - the wiki is not intended to duplicate the Album Civium, which lists all citizens automatically and can link to personal pages offsite.

Vale, Marcus Octavius Gracchus(t) 04:58, 16 March 2007 (CET)

Please stop creating pages about individual citizens. That's what the Album Civium for, and the wiki is not intended to duplicate that. Only in the case of elected officers and priests of the central priestly colletia are additional pages created. Vale, Marcus Octavius Gracchus(t) 16:04, 24 March 2007 (CET)

Triari, do all those bio pages that you just made meet the criterion that Octavius stated above? Let's not waste time duplicating the Album Civium! Agricola 10:15, 3 December 2007 (CET)

Veneta pages and Veneta history

Salve, Triari! Please take a look at this conversation. I think it would be a great idea and something that would also strengthen factio-identity and proudness among factio fans to create a section of the page with factio history. Who were the domini factionis, in which year? What were the greatest victories? It's very good that Atellus collects records about each past race, but records about the factio I think would be also great. Vale! --Gnaeus Cornelius Lentulus 13:09, 12 July 2013 (CEST)
