The incumbent serves under a legatus legionis assigned to the same area as the tribunus militum. The tribunus militum shall assist the legatus legionis in the execution of his/her tasks, The Senatus consultum appointing the tribunus militum shall specify the area of his/her assignment and which legatus legionis he/she shall serve under. A tribunus militum cannot be assigned to an area that does not have a legatus legionis assigned to it, nor shall the tribunus militum act in a detached manner by not reporting to a legatus legionis. More than one tribunus militum can be assigned to a legatus legionis. There is no requirement for the tribunus militum to be resident in the area to which he/she is assigned to.

Introduction

Article IV.A.9 of the lex Cornelia Domitia de re publica constituenda mandates that a number of political military tribunes (also called tribuni militum a populo) are elected. These tribunes fulfill functions related to the ceremonial and reenacting military of Nova Roma, which are distinct from military tribunes as a military rank proper (tribuni militum rufuli), who are promoted by commanding officers of reenactment legions.

The tribuni militum comitiati are under the direct military command and imperium of the consuls of Nova Roma, but they can be appointed to serve in any reenactment legion of Nova Roma at the same time, representing the consuls therein.

Obligations and responsibilities

The tribuni militum comitiati are magistrates responsible for promoting Roman military culture and traditions in Nova Roma, to serve and assist the autonomous or allied reenectment legions and units of Nova Roma, and to assist the higher magistrates about Roman military issues and military reenactment, especially the consuls and praetors, and the Officium Consulare.
