Cn. Lentulus pontifex camillis et omnibus s. p. d.

Today, with this announcement, I solemnly open the Pontifical Camillus School for the new priestly generation of Nova Roma. I wish you joy and success with your studies, and I pray that this course may help Nova Roma advance towards its final mission, the restoration of the Roman religion, culture and virtues, the resurrection of the Roman People. May Ianus bless our initiative and new beginning, may Minerva be propitious to you and to this Camillus School, may the Manes, the Dead Roman Ancestors and all our Ancestors be with us on this Ides of February, the first day of the Parentalia, and may they help our journey to their Rome, to our Rome, through our prayers, studies, and practice.

I have invited all of you, camilli, and the priests who want to learn, to the general mailing list of the camillus school. Please subscribe there at your earliest convenience, and from now on, all general communications pertaining to our training program (technical or general questions, not related to the currently discussed study material of a course) shall be conducted there.

I have also invited you to another mailing list, the mailing list of the course entitled "Introduction to the Theory and Reconstruction of Roman Religion". This is your first course, the course that starts today. The other two courses will start at a later point when your studies will be more advanced with this general introduction.

HOMEWORKS

I would like to call your attention to the importance of homeworks. All homeworks I will assign to you will be either useful for Nova Roma (they will be built into our website's material), or useful for yourself (they will improve your knowledge or skills). Homeworks are obligatory to do, and they will constitute most of what would be called "test" or "exam". The rules about homework is the following:

1. Each homework or test will have a deadline until which you must send it to me.
2. If you don't send your homework until the deadline, I will not guarantee that I will correct it or deal with it together with the others who sent it in time, although I will, probably at a later point, check it and comment on it.
3. If you have sent your homework after the deadline, you will get a "delay point". If you reach 10 delay points, it will have consequences, and you will be free to choose between two possibilities:
a) you will be suspended and you will have to wait until a number of other camilli accumulates with whom you can be assigned to a special slower course;
b) or, you may request to be put in a personalized special category which will be moving in an entirely personalized speed, and in this case you can continue your studies, with personalized deadlines, without any temporary suspension. In this second case, however, since I have both limited free time and a lots of extra burdens and extra things to do already with creating this training program, and people in this second category would essentially become almost private students, I will undertake training in this second category only if the student can help my work in some form, donating to me either a book I need for my works, or its price, or some sort of other resources, which may either help me or make my burden easier. There will be no required value of this gift or donation, it will be entirely conscience based, depending on your inclination.
4. If there will be 3 such homeworks that you will have not completed even after a month passed after the deadline, you will be likewise required to choose between the A and B possibilities described above.
5. There will be a few "milestone" homeworks or tests, after we close a bigger section or unit in our studies. You will have to pass these tests (they will much more like homeworks than rigorous exams, but you still need to take them seriously). If you don't pass such a milestone, or if you fail to send it within the deadline, you will have another chance to try it. If you fail that, too, you will be required to select between option A and B described above.

These are the rules, briefly, regulating homeworks, assignments and tests. Soon I will add all course roles (there will not be many at all) to our Camillus School web page.

Once again: the Gods be with you during your camillus training, and I wish you joy and success for the upcoming period!

Di vos custodiant, valete!

Cn. Lentulus
