AUGUSTONEMETUM,
Gallia Lugdunensis
August 2007, 10 th
Gallo-roman week-end

For the first time, the ancient famous Augustodunum has organized a gallo-roman week-end, with a movie session, a roman dinner, a 'gallo-roman street' with exhibitions by Gallic and gladiators troops. The evenings have proposed "Augustodunum, Murcia's travel" a night sound-and-light show. The pictures below just show some Sa. afternoon events, in the center of Autun, where a hundred of people attended the event. For, unfortunately, Sunday was really rainy!

The leaflet
The first page of Augustodunum festival leaflet.
Crowd in the Roman street
A 100 meters "via romana" has been installed by the City of Autun on Autun main place. Despite the weather (clouds and rain every day !), people appreciated the event. Among others, there were sculptors, archeologists, pottery makers, wine makers and reenactment organizations.
Watching the Master 'tour de main'
Pierre-Alain Capt works near Lausanne (Swiss). Til the end of september he travels with his wife from festival to another to show and sell his beautiful products. His small corporation : "Ars Cretariae".
Acta stand
Acta is a reenactment association specialized in Roman shows, specially gladiators. Its particularity is that its leaders are or were top level sports men, specially in martial arts. So Acta cares on trying each movement, each equipment piece. The gladiators never "play", but every time fight each other with the will of winning.
Before the fight
Acta has found again the ancient apparently insignificant gestures, which shows us that the preparation was a real serious thing.
Before the storm
As they are at the same time sportsmen, Acta's gladiators do like competition. So they never "play", but every time fight each other with the will of winning. Contrary to other shows, there is not necessary a equal repartition of the victories and defeats: the better wins.
Simple shields, but serious struggle
After having presented the show to the audience, Brice Lopez is carefully watching his guys. His moderation is sometimes useful.
