The Academia Thules ad Studia Romana Antiqua et Nova was an experiment in online education. The academy featured several courses centered on Ancient Roman culture and on the modern organisation of Nova Roma. The courses that were taught by highly qualified instructors but the school had no formal accreditation. Although it was established by instructors who were members of Nova Roma, Academia Thules had no formal connection with Nova Roma and operated independently of Nova Roma. The school was built on at least two servers but when the server hosting the student records and courseware suffered a fatal failure the school was esstentially shut down. The Academia Thules web site announced it would formally shutdown as of 01 May 2012. The owners of the school are no longer associated with Nova Roma and no plans have been announced to establish a new academy.
