Subject: [Nova-Roma] Thanks and Roman Days
From: Diana Moravia Aventina <diana_aventina@yahoo.com>
Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 18:19:12 -0700 (PDT)
Salvete citizens,

First of all both my mother and I would like to
thank all of you that sent their good wishes and
condolences to our family next week. My mother
was shocked that so many people who had never met
neither myself nor her would care. But I
explained that this is Nova Roma :-)
We are preparing an official thank you letter
which I will send out when I return to Belgium
next Sunday.

Re Roman Days
To put it simply, my cheeks were hurting from
smiling so much!I am happy to say that I have met
Nova Romans on 2 continents. I think it was
Patricia who dubbed me the Intercontinental NR
Ambassador :-)

First of all, a big hug, kiss and thank you to
Merlinia for graciously bringing me and allowing
me to be her roommate.

And thanks to Fabius and Flavia who didn't get
annoyed with me when I had us driving around in
circles for an hour looking for a bar.
Thanks to Marius Merullus and Palladius who didnt
get annoyed with me when I had us driving around
in circles for an hour looking for Marietta
Mansion.
Thanks to Patricia Cassia who didn't get annoyed
at me when I had us driving around in circles for
a half hour looking for the cool bar. (Has anyone
noticed a pattern yet?)
Another thanks to Paulina and Marinus who
chauffered me around (and whom I didn't get
lost)!
A special thanks to Palladius who held my eyelid
open while I scraped crazy glue off my eyeball
:-p Minerva must have been looking out for me (or
Venus doesn't want an Odin-like Priestess)
because my eye has had a miraculous recovery.
And thanks to Tiberius in advance for not
printing any of the goofy things that I said/did
in the July issue of the Eagle :-)))

And to all of the above mentioned citizens and to
the following: Cincinnatus (& Virgil & Naomi) M
M Audens and his lovely wife Margaret, Tiberius,
& Marcus Cassius. It was a pleasure to have my
life cross paths with yours. May the Gods watch
over you and keep you happy, loved and safe!

I miss you all already and am a bit down about
it. It is weird to talk to people in person for 3
days, love their company and then knowing that we
may never see eachother again (or at best, see
eachother in a year) go backwards to this medium
of email. Somehow it just doesn't seem enough
anymore.

But I have some great group pictures and some
especially nice ones of Audens, Marinus and
Cincinnatus in their toga's and a rather
embarrassing one where I look like I have
Cincinnatus in choke hold (oops).

Ok take care all!
Valete
Diana Moravia

Ok that's all for now!

So, Global TV is a definite go for Wednesday June 18th. At this point
you're slotted in for 7:15, but that can change if you need it to. Have
you had any luck rounding up some other guys? If so, I'll need their
names for Global.
We're thinking of shooting in MacEwan Student Centre, north courtyard.
What will your needs be in terms of space, etc.? Will that area be OK?
The Herald also is showing some interest in an interview, but I won't
know for sure for a few days.
Give me a shout when you've got a chance.

That was, to say the least, an experience I will never forget :-p and
am glad it turned out well; the eye is so delicate. Prayers were
answered.

I know exactly what you mean. Events and meetings give us all an
inkling of what the future of Nova Roma can look like. I felt a
greater sense of community and connection among that band of Nova
Romans than in macronational communities I have been a part of for
years--and I live in a town of 300 where everyone knows everyone.

Subject: [Nova-Roma] Roman Summer Camp
From: "Stephen Gallagher" <spqr753@msn.com>
Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2003 13:34:20 -0400
Salve Romans

As we have talked about the idea of a Roman Summer Camp for kids in the past, I would like to suggest that we start now to plan for holding a camp next summer. More that one summer camp could and should be held and should be organized by LOCAL Romans. With that in mine I would like to suggest a meeting of those , interested, and in the Mid Atlantic area for a weekend planning session and general get-together. Send me some dates that would be good , we should do this summer so the information and other arrangements can be ready for school and we can start raising money for the camp. We will need Roman re-enactors and will need to ask for their help early.

I would thing we could hold the camp at a scout camp next year Before or after they have used it. I am leaning in the direction of holding it in Up-state New York, near ROME ( any chance they any NR in Rome NY). We could appoint different people to do research on differ topic and they would bring the information to the meeting to build a program for the camp and to deal with the logistics of the camp. We would need to decide a "theme", I am thinking of Your in the Roman Army now! , write a budget, get the word out to schools ( and other places) as soon as possible . You might be surprised how early people plan for the summer.

Hear is a list of some areas individuals can volunteer for.

1.. Program, what would would we offer and for what age group , co-ed?
2.. Finance/budget
3.. Physical site: Cost , location, amenities (lake not pool?)
4.. Coordination with Legions
5.. Cooking/ commissary staff
6.. Equipment: tents, camp tunics, tee shirts , bedding
7.. Administration and medical staff and medical forms and physicals
8.. Entertainment: plays, Gladiator fights, etc.
9.. Transportation
10.. Staffing: Staff training , staff applications and selection of a director, program director , Aquatics director and other key staff members
11.. Field trips or special events
12.. other?

Vale

From: "Mary Beth Clemons" <flaviaspqr@sailormoon.com>

Salvete, omnes!

SVVBE

First things first: I arrived home ok and the flight back was a lot better than the flight up! (Just for the record.)

Secondly, I would like to convey my undying gratitude to all of you who treated me so kindly and warmly and made this trip possible.

To Q. Fabius Maximus, a gentleman and scholar who was nice enough to pay for my air fare and stay in his room (he even slept on the floor like a soldier!) and tote me around most of the weekend and pick up the tab for some of my dinners and alcoholic beverages. Your generosity is unsurpassed and I am very blessed to have a friend like you.

To the Cassii, very caring people who volunteered to pay for my dinner Sunday night even though I offered! It was great seeing you both again and I would like to extend an offer for you all to come visit me in the Sunshine State any time. (I will send you a fruit basket.)

To Gnaeus Equitius Marinus, the esteemed and compassionate governor of the Mid-Atlantic, without whom I would have been stranded in Maryland, I thank you heartily. (I need your address so I can send a thank you note and gas money! I got paid today!)

To Merlinia Ambrosia, thanks for giving me a ride to the hotel on Sunday afternoon and seeing me off EARLY Monday morning.

Thirdly, I would like to say how wonderful it was to meet some familiar and new Nova Romans face to face!

Decius Iunius Palladius, I hope I lived up to your expectations! (I think I did because I am still your favorite "ex-magistrate".)And it was nice to see Lucius Equitius Cincinnatus in good cheer and health. Thank you for your hard work in the event. And thank you, Marcus Minucius Audens for your entertaining stories over dinner!

Diana Moravia Aventia, Tiberius Galerius Paulinus, Gaius Marius Merullus, it was a pleasure meeting you all for the first time!

I believe I covered everyone. If I forgot, please send me a nasty email to the list so that everyone can see what a dope I am. (If they didn't know already!)

I sincerely hope to see you all there next year or any time before then! Someday, when I graduate, I'll be able to do the same for all of you!

Valete,

Minervina Iucundia Flavia
