Ave Pupule Honorabilis!

Yesterday was for me the dearest anniversary. On December 27 2001 I
discovered an article by Linda A. Malcor about the Roman roots of
King Arthur. It was the first time I cried happy tears.
Everything sounded like a sweet song in a sad exile.
It was a meeting.
I love King Arthur, but I must confess that I love him more in the
shining armour and the golden crest of a centurion.
And it was Rome, again and again. All the paths lead to Rome, even
through the secret woods.

Ok. Please, please, I don't want to offend anybody's theories about
the origins of the arthurian legend, this is strictly personal.
By the way, those memorial plaques are not a fraud, that man did
exist and fight in Britain. (Oh yeah!!!)

That day I immediately sent an e-mail to the historian with all my
happy feelings and congratulations for her bravery... You know,
celtists are very warlike. (Again, if anybody has other ideas, please
forgive me).
Next day she answered me very kindly and, after that, another thing
happened: I found Nova Roma. What else could I say?

One of the first things I posted in the mailing list was something
more or less recognizable as a poem dedicated to this great Roman
soldier. (Thanks Piparskeggr Ullarsson for noticing it).
Some day I will travel to Croatia to see the plaques with that
adorable name: LVCIVS ARTORIVS CASTVS.
For now the only thing possible is to send Linda A. Malcor my little
homage. Because it is sad to see that nobody has ever celebrated the
real man behind the myth. (I'm waiting for a good poem, a good novel
and a movie).
I don't worship Praefectus Artorius, he's simply my hero!

So, what I'd like to ask you is whether you could permit me to tell
her I belong to Nova Roma. Just that. I'm too shy to send her the
thing I wrote without any apparent reason.
Hope you have understood the tangle.

Thanks with all my heart and sorry for the long explanation.

DII VOS BENE AMENT
Valeria Constantina Iuliana.

Subject: [Nova-Roma] Important questions
From: "maximus33777 <grex37@aol.com>" <grex37@aol.com>
Date: Sat, 28 Dec 2002 04:05:29 -0000
Here are some questions ive been dying to ask nr...

Govt type... What type of govt type will nova roma have once we have
established land? Democracy or Republic? a mixture of both? will we
do things the same as in the old rome? we need to start formulating
opinions now atleast...

National anthem... I have seen this issue squelched by other nova
romans claming it to be "not important right now" but i think it is
very important. Shouldnt the goal of nova roma at this point be the
building of our cultural identity. the flag is a great start, and i
think an anthem would be wonderful. What else are we doing? I'm not
trying to insult anyone, I am sure things are being accomplished, but
we should concentrate on things to represent us. If this idea catches
on, ill certainly help...

Advertising... Growth is a top priority for us, as i have assumed.
What are some good (and inexpensive of course) methods for spreading
Rome's benevolence across the world? How much does an add cost in the
inquirer? And just to get an idea... does anyone know how much a
commerical costs on a channel like abc? Just wondering...

I plan to become a citizen soon but I read the list daily and have
been wondering about these topics.

Salve Flavii Aurelii:

I am not trying to attack anybody. The moderator, who is an honourable
man, took offense and certainly it was not my intention.

I simply have a mailing problem that is not unique. Other members of
the list, and they are many, have the same problem and that's why I came out
public. And no, it is not the delay that bothers me as much, but its
messing up the format which I noticed happened to your post too.

It seems clear, now, that the problem is not caused by the list being
moderated. I noticed that all the hotmail members get the same problem, the
AOL too. I am painfully aware that Yahoo is cheap, and wish that everybody
would pay their taxes that we could afford a list that is up to the
standards.

As someone who has operated lists via Yahoo, I can advise that these
problems are common, and if I could afford a different service, then I'd use
it. Missing messages, changing statuses of subscribers, messages
disappearing into the void, lists that don't obey the rules set for them.
All quite normal.

Galerius, if the moderators say you aren't moderated, then you aren't. If
the yahoo service has glitches, then blame it, not the moderators. And even
if your posts *are* being moderated, that doesn't mean everyone else cannot
read them, but that they get approved first, so what?
Five minutes for messages to show up? Gods! That's pretty good for a mail
server. Especially a free one.

Moderators - I recommend pointing out to everyone who subscribes that if
they want a better service, they can pay for it. Better list software and
services exist. But for free? Never.

I guess she left out the ability of humans to lash out in blind anger; for example, calling a fellow citizen an "asshole" over a made up story. Truly a wonderous thing. Just like rain drops on roof tops and whiskers on kittens.

Salve Gai Basilicate!

Discussing with you never ceases to amaze and amuse me! Offtopic it is, but who cares ;o).
Are you gonna cry cause of the little girl who thought human emotions more wonderous than the Great pyramids? Maybe she missed he point of the exercise. Would you like a little lamb burger and some french cries?

MOS: I am not "gonna cry". I just hate cynical sarcasm, that's all.

I guess she left out the ability of humans to lash out in blind anger; for example, calling a fellow citizen an "asshole" over a made up story. Truly a wonderous thing. Just like rain drops on roof tops and whiskers on kittens.

MOS: You know, I didn't call you an asshole (according to R. Ashcroft you may be one, though) ! And besides, if you're such a tough guy you should be able to handle such comparisons. Sow sarcasm, harvest anger. It's pure logic. What did you expect? "Hear hear Argicola, your sarcasm was really necessary, to the point and constructive!". Poor devil! How dare I attack you like that? Come on man ;o).

Okay okay, this message isn't the epitome of constructiveness either. I was just clarifying my point.

Vale bene!

Are you gonna cry cause of the little girl who thought human emotions more wonderous than the Great pyramids? Maybe she missed he point of the exercise. Would you like a little lamb burger and some french cries?

I guess she left out the ability of humans to lash out in blind anger; for example, calling a fellow citizen an "asshole" over a made up story. Truly a wonderous thing. Just like rain drops on roof tops and whiskers on kittens.

Vale

Quoting the British rock singer R. Ashcroft: "When you say you like that little flower over there, you become vulnerable in the mind of the asshole who tramples it under your very eyes."
