I've just noticed that the German pages that were uploaded give the
following address for the Eagle in Europe. Is that correct? And what is the
price in Euros by the way?

Diana if you change the setting from German to English it gives you the address for the Eagle in Europe. I believe that this is the same Eagle but I am not sure just yet. More later.

Salve F.Galerius Aurelianus Secundus:

I thank you for your kind words. I, too, have enjoyed your posts. I will stay, and not let the undiplomatic ruminations of one Senator drive me from my dreams. I would hope that those who have created NR would one day hope that it would grow beyond their intitial efforts and, ultimately, beyond their control. I look forward to the new administration.

From F.Galerius Aurelianus Secundus to G. Basilicatus Agricola. Salve.

We have never spoken directly, good citizen, but I have found many of your
posts most interesting and, at times, entertaining. I do not believe it is
in the best interests of the Republic for you to compare the actions of the
illustrious senator with those in the mundane/modern world nor to consider
resigning from NR. I have never found him to be a hard-core "love it or
leave it" patrician. I grant you that I have never been in total agreement
with him on many issues either. We are, however, entering a new
administrative period for the Republic with many fresh new magistrates who
are showing a zeal for reform and growth. Regardless of personal opinion of
another citizen, the Republic is more that one citizen, one gens, or one
macronation. We are stronger by your presence than without it. May the gods
grant you good fortune. Vale.

Interesting note, if you type "Nova Roma" (yes including the space between
the words) in the address field of the Mozilla (or Phoenix) web browser, it
automatically loads www.novaroma.org.

If you do that in Internet Explorer it does an "MSN Search" for Nova Roma and
comes up with several results.

I agree with most of what you're saying. However, I take exception that all my clients are scumbags. I have many a client not that different from you found in a difficult situation who thank the heavens for the prusumption of innocence.

I have studied my primary sources. For four long years. In the original latin and greek. I have a degree in it. The tribunes were allowed to listern to Senate debate and pass it along to the rest of us. End of debate.

Why is macronational views impacting how I view NR politics? The most striking conclusion I came to after my years of study is that the ancients, on the whole, were no different than us. As the hebrews said "What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done there is nothing new under the sun"

I would think so. Since you operate under a great burden. You are bound by
law to assume that the scumbag you are defending is innocent. That must be a
great strain.
But it also means you are creative. You have to be. Your job must be harder
now that Ashcroft has made changes to the rules.
But why is your macronational position impacting on NR? Study your primary
sources.

Salve Tiberius Galerius Paulinus,
Salvete citizens,

> If the Tributes of the Plebs want to write a monthly column telling of
the on going > debate in >><the Senate there will be more that enough space
to include it in the Eagle.

I see that you've replied to Gaius Basilicatus Agricola's comment that he
was thinking of resigning. I certainly hope that he does not.

In this Forum even when only a few words are said out of line, or there is
sarcasm from one person or another, someone quits or threatens to. Our Nova
Romans are a good deal more thinner skinned that the ancient Rmans ever
were. So don't you realize that an 'open Senate Door' will just lead to
more of the same?

And one thing that you are also forgetting: who says that the Tribune
writing the column will correctly convey what is happening in the Senate? An
adverb here, an inflection there, and an unintentional English mistake could
quite easily influence the citizens' opinions on what actually was said
during Senate discussions.

So with all due respect for your new position as Eagle Editor, you will not
be getting any 'scoops' on the Senate debates from this Tribune and I hope
that my future colleagues will agree with me on this.

In all other matters, I support the Eagle, commend you on your enthusiasm
and wish you the best of luck in this new endeavour.

Vale,

P. Cornelia Strabo is not an ordinary nurse. She was a ER nurse, one of the

Ummm not exactly. You are stating as a truth a fact which is not 100%
accurate. When the Tribunate came into existence in the period around 466,
they were not even allowed into Senate, let alone listen at the door. It
took them years to gain that.

Go to the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. primary merchant site and
look for armorers. Joe Piela down in Georgia does really good custom work
but if you are a normal size, one of the Roman sutlers might have a Deepeeka
that would work for you but you may have to get a custom subarmalis to make
it fit correctly.

Salve Tiberius,

I believe that this is the same Eagle but I am not sure just yet. More <
later.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that it is the same Eagle since I don't remember us
ever having too English Eagles (one in the US English and one in British
English-- US dialect isn't so different from British :-)

I'm sure tht it is meant as the address where Europeans can send in money to
subscribe. I am pretty sure that that address has been there for a few years
(before the Euro). My point in letting you know is that if the address is
wrong, then the Germanic citizens might accidentally send the money to
England instead of to you. And you should maybe ask Decimus Iunius Silanus,
the Propraetor of Britannia whose adddress it is : danedwardsuk@yahoo.co.uk
and then get our webmasters to make the change.

1) Of course, I am going to make reports on the Senate. Of course I am
committed to this duty.
2) I will do my best to make sure that the reports are better, more often
and more detailed since it is what the people want. And it will be my
pleasure to do so.
3) Because I am concerned about the people, I think that issues of a
confidential nature or 'Senate gossip' should be avoided because it will
only cause more infighting on this mainlist.
4) I am not the only person who is against 'Open doors' yet you've posted 2
one liner replies to my email below. (The first one-liner reply being 'Not
thin skinned. Just dramatic")

And maybe one of the two times you could have commented on my first sentence
in that email.

> I see that you've replied to Gaius Basilicatus Agricola's comment that he
>was thinking of resigning. I certainly hope that he does not.

The sentiment of my above statement still stands.

Salve Tiberius Galerius Paulinus,
Salvete citizens,

> If the Tributes of the Plebs want to write a monthly column telling of
the on going > debate in >><the Senate there will be more that enough
space
to include it in the Eagle.

I see that you've replied to Gaius Basilicatus Agricola's comment that he
was thinking of resigning. I certainly hope that he does not.

In this Forum even when only a few words are said out of line, or there is
sarcasm from one person or another, someone quits or threatens to. Our
Nova
Romans are a good deal more thinner skinned that the ancient Rmans ever
were. So don't you realize that an 'open Senate Door' will just lead to
more of the same?

And one thing that you are also forgetting: who says that the Tribune
writing the column will correctly convey what is happening in the Senate?
An
adverb here, an inflection there, and an unintentional English mistake
could
quite easily influence the citizens' opinions on what actually was said
during Senate discussions.

So with all due respect for your new position as Eagle Editor, you will
not
be getting any 'scoops' on the Senate debates from this Tribune and I hope
that my future colleagues will agree with me on this.

In all other matters, I support the Eagle, commend you on your enthusiasm
and wish you the best of luck in this new endeavour.

Vale,
Diana Moravia Aventina

Hmm, well...uh... 'fine body musculature' huh? That's even more of a reason
for you to stay in NR, to never ever quit, and to attend all of the European
gatherings :-)))

Hi Tiberius,

I've just received a very helpful email from someone in England (thanks
Claudius!) who has confirmed that the English address is just like I
thought: years old and belonging to an ex-NR citizen, who has moved to
France. So you should ask our webmasters to urgently get it off the English
and translated German websites. I would ask them for you, but I don't want
to step on your toes so to speak :-)
And by the way, will there be an online version fo the Eagle? If you want
one, just ask me. I can make a simple website online like the one I sent you
in a matter of an hour or so. And it would be my pleasure to give you a
hand :-)

Vale,
Diana Moravia

SPQNR. Salvete.

To Cordus, I recommend that you look into the Penguin and Loeb Classics for
what Greek & Roman writers are currently in print. I would recommend that
you look into a subject before you jump the arcuballista.

L Equitius: Exactly, The ISBN I gave in my first post on the subject is for
the Loeb.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Nova-Roma/message/6177
Cato et Varro, De Agricultura, ISBN-0-674-99313-6

Loeb has a great website, I've posted it before but as we have seen topic
are cyclic
on this list so, http://www.hup.harvard.edu/loeb/

To L. Equitius Cincinnatus, I do not believe I stated anything about Cato
the Censor that was not true in some way.

L Equitius: I view opinions that we hold on matters such as these as value
judgments, modern values.
I wonder how Cato and other Romans would view our lifestyle and values
today, given the chance.

I have read his work both for the agricultural and religious information.
He was highly opinionated (as were many of the Roman writers were),
xenophobic (he had an irrational hatred of Carthage-"Carthago delenda
est"),

L Equitius: If I had lived in Rome at that time I would have feared Carthage
too. BTW have you read L Iunius Moderatus Columella? I have the three Loeb
vol. but haven't gotten to them yet. I'm really looking forward to them.

tight-fisted (his work shows that old slaves and animals should be removed
so as not to be a financial liability),
and (based on my experience with Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama
farmers) grumpy; if you have ever lived and worked on a farm for many years,
you'd be a little grumpy also.

L Equitius: Farming and ranching have never been an easy life. My family
raised horses on one side and were farmers and ferriors on the other. So
maybe grumpy is a trait of us, even if we no longer farm :-)

I have read and continue to read many of the ancient authors. Some have a
tendency to hyperbole, others are vain & egocentric, some are pious, some
are truly entertaining. None of these characteristics may detract from my
enjoyment of reading them.

L Equitius: Quite so, Idem in me.

I merely voiced an opinion concerning a single
ancient author within the context of a message urging my fellow citizens to
be moderate in response. If you take exception, I regret your problem but
will not reverse myself on the opinion.

Vale.

L Equitius: I never asked anyone to change their opinion, and indeed I
didn't addressed you, Aurelianus Secundus.
I said to Cordus, De Gusatibus non disputatium.
To each his own.

Also, just as you told Cordus above, "I would recommend that you look into a
subject before you jump the arcuballista."; I suggested that one should
investigate a subject before, not only forming an opinion, offering it to
everyone.

Iam mihi Carthago delenda est!

Io Saturnalia!!!

Master Tiberius / Tribune Diana;

During my short stint as an Editor for Eagle in 1999, the address to
which you refer was the address of a very nice young lady who had
offered to repost the hard-copy Eagles destined for European subscribers
in Europe. This she did during my Editorship.

However, it was my understanding that she had moved either permanantly
or temporarily to somewhere in Eastern Europe to pursue her Doctoral
Studies. I am not sure if she resigned from NR, or smply withdrew from
active involvement until her studies were completed. However, unless
some one knows differently, I believe that address is no longer a valid
one for the purpose previously used.

Tiberius -- I have mailed the four monthly copies of the Eagle produced
under my Editorship.

Respectfully;

Marcus Minucius Audens

Apparently, I interpreted your comments as addressed to me on my opinion of Cato's characteristics. Perhaps because the email seemed to be addressed to both myself and Cordus. Vale.

In the same vein, supposedly Daffy duck was based on an obstreporous executive with no sense of humour whatsoever given to poking his nose into the cartoon office at the back of the WB lot believing they were all wasting corporate money as if it was his own. "And whatsh zhat shtoopid duck shupposed to be? Nobody talksh like zhat".
