*sigh*...It is sad to me that there is a discussion of a census to
relieve NRof dead wood so to speak, when I am still awaiting permission
to join.

I pray the gods will honor my desire to become a member and await a good
omen in the winter skies over Massachusetts....as I have no auger
available to foretell my chances.

ANTONIVS GRYLLVS GRAECVS PONTIFEX OMNIBUS CIVIBVS SALVTEM

This is one of the dies comitiales (C), when assemblies of citizens can vote
on political or criminal matters.

Today is the aniversary of the Ara Pacis (altar of Peace) at the Campus
Martius. Its construction was voted by the Senate to celebrate the return of
Emperor Augustus from pacified Hispania and Gallia in 13 BC, and the Senatus
Consultum also ordered the magistrates and priests and Vestal Virgins to
make annual sacrifice at the altar [Res Gestae, II.12]. The Ara Pacis was
dedicated on 9 BC. The birthday of the Ara Pacis would become one of the
major religious celebrations during the imperial period.
[Ovidius, Fasti, 709-722]:
"The course of my song hath led me to the Ara Pacis. The day will be the
second from the end of the month. Come, Peace, thy dainty tresses wreathed
with Actian laurels, and let thy gentle presence abide in the world. So but
there be nor foes nor food for triumphs, thou shalt be unto our chiefs a
glory greater than war. May the soldier bear arms only to check the armed
aggressor, and may the fierce trumpet blare for naught but solemn pomp! May
the world near and far dread the sons of Aeneas, and if there be any land
that feared not Rome, may it love Rome instead! Add incense, ye priests, to
the flames that burn on the Ara Pacis, let a white victim fall with
wine-annointed brow, and ask of the gods, who lend a favouring ear to pious
prayers, that the house, which is the warranty of peace, with peace may last
forever."

The month of Ianuarius is sacred to Ianus.

Subject: [novaroma] Nova Roma Census
From: "Sybil Leek" <PrimaRituliaNocta@hotmail.com>
Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 05:10:11 -0800
Salve Renata Livia

This discussion has been rather interesting, because it's illustrating to me
something that I see as an inherent conflict in the 'personality' of Nova
Roma--the divergence between being a club or
organization and being a nation. In a nation, people fall through the
cracks regularly. I can show you lots of folks in my home city who have
fallen through the cracks. The leadership of a club, though, _does_care.

Perhaps what you could do, either annually or every six months, is send a
citizenship confirmation message to all of the citizenry, requesting
confirmation of their email or postal mail addresses. It is even possible
to do this in an automated way, as Classmates.com does, with a programming
script; the citizens would not even need to reply. Or, if you prefer to
have an assertion from the person that he or she is indeed still interested
in being a citizen of Nova Roma, you could at least verify that the email
address is still valid.

>In the past Nova Roma has enacted such annual email requests for the
>purpose of census conformation. I believe this is a very good idea to
>maintain an active list of citizens.

Another thing I would do is recommend that people's contact email addresses
be something other than Hotmail. Their email boxes, the last I checked,
become inactive very quickly, if they are not used within a short span of
time. Netscape is better, for people needing a free, permanent email
address.

>Hmmm, I have very personal reasons for using a hotmail address as my
>contact point. I have had one of my hotmail accounts for over 2 ½ years
>now and it has never fallen inactive. I would assume then that the reason
>an account falls inactive is because the person in question was not as
>committed as they had thought.

While frequent contact confirmation is not something that a nation would
normally do, it is, I think,
needed for a situation like this, in which the entity, while striving to be
a nation, is still in many ways like a club, and is probably regarded as
such by many people who apply for citizenship.

For me, the more important problem is one of dereliction. I do believe that
people who accept a
position of responsibility should be removed from that position if they
don't maintain contact with the members of their gens, the mainlist, or with
their provincial governor for a reasonable length of time. If you care
about something enough, you DO find a way to maintain contact.

>I agree with you whole-heartedly on this point, however I would think it
>obvious to remove such entities if no further contact could be made with
>them.

Vale Prima Ritulia Nocta

Salvete,

In light of the current discussions, I think it may be a good idea
for all paters and maters to make a tally of all in your respective
gens who are on military deployment in Operation Noble Eagle or
Enduring Freedom. I know I am not the only one, and some folks so
deployed may not have computer access.

And as an afterthought.....whatever you may have heard in the news
about alleged "neglect" or "abuse" of detainees in Cuba is crap. I
see these poor dopes regularly, and they are very well looked after.
There was one of them though,. who last week had a major gripe....he

Thank you very much I have included the link:

At my web about celtic languages! The names occurring in the coins are very interesiting from the point of classification of the gaulish dialect of Boii.

A question: These coins were struck by Roman influence or by causes related to long range trade of Romans or Macedonians?
