Avete Omnes,

I have added our informal western gathering (Saturday 23 March, Noonish to Sixish) to the
calendars at the national website and on the list site.

The event will be held at a local park, which is within easy ballista cast from my house. Bring
your own meat, bread and favorite drink, I'll provide salads, munchies and fire!

This is proposed as a putting a face to the name get together.

If folks are planning on coming a good distance, I have some crash space at my house. Annia
Ulleria is somewhat used to that from my SCA active days.

I figure we can spill over to my house in an after action sip and chat.

Mistress Rhonda Havins;

Most organizations like Nova Roma and most Reenactor Organizatons have
some kind of Annual Event. To date, Nova Roma has kind of adopted the
XXth Legio's "Roman Days," just outside of Baltimore, as our Annual
Event. However, this year events in Ohio, and Canada, may change that a
bit. There have also been events in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New
York with the XXIVth Legio which were of significant interest, to which
I was privaledgedto attend, and I am informed that our Province of
California has had some interesting events as well.

Last year at the Maryland Roman Days we had a couple of excellent cooks
who were preparing great finger-food and excellent meals as well. Both
ProConsul Cassus Julianus and I ate until we were about to bust!!!!
Nobody went hungary, and the food was very good!!!!

Nova Roma has several Sodalitas or clubs for a member's consideration
including one which specializes in wine-making and cooking. The founder
of that Sodalitas is brewing a special wine for me, by the name of
Falernian. There is now an Academia on line which is in the Province of
Thule, but I believe will become increasingly interesting as time goes
by. Perhaps ProPraetor Quintillianus on the Main List would be
interested in a foods / spices expert!!!

Welcome to Nova Roma!! Your interest is very welcome, as is your
interest area. Be well, and have fun with our micro-nation!!!!

Respectfully;

Salvete,

I am also interested in medical history - everything from the use of herbs
and stringents to surgical techniques. It would be very interesting to
compare some of the ancient techniques with our modern procedures.

I first became interested in Roman medicine when I read a series of books by
Jack Whyte regarding the Roman Occupation of Britain. The story is about the
ancestors of King Arthur intertwined with Roman life in Britannia. One of the
main characters of the first few books is a Roman military physician by the
name of Lucanus. The author goes into quite a lot of detail as tosome of the
medical practices of the time. It seems to be fairly well researched.

I'd love to take part in discussions regarding Roman medicine and do some
research when time may permit.

Perhaps all of these related medical/health topics would make

Salve, Pompeia Cornelia!

It's a pleasure to meet you. :) I am a former
secretary now studying to become a medical
transcriptionist. I've been interested in medicine
since childhood, and became interested in archaeology
and forensics along the way.

I would be happy to create a Sodalitas Medicum list
today, for interested people. Is there someone of
authority who I should include as a co-moderator, or
is that necessary?

Salvete, omnes--

At Pompeia Cornelia's suggestion, I decided to go
ahead and create a mailing list, which I have called
the Sodalitas Medicum. Please advise me as to whether
this is the correct Latin.

I've made the list open to the public, in the hopes
that people who are not yet cives of Nova Roma might
find the list and be interested in applying for
citizenship via the link to the NR website from the
list homepage.

If you are interested in joining, you may do so from
this link:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SodalitasMedicum

or by emailing this address:
mailto:subscribe-SodalitasMedicum@yahoogroups.com

Caius Titinius Varus--Glad to meet you! I'll have to
look for those Jack Whyte books on Amazon. Maybe
they'll list them there. Or, now that I think about
it, my husband might own them. I've been amazed at
what neat books he owns.

Gaius Noviodunus Ferriculus--Your professor's got an
impressive vitae! If only I could read French
better...(g) I wonder if any of his books have been
translated into English? Thank you very much for
giving that bibliography.

Valete,
