Subject: [novaroma] Praetoral Tribute: Apollo
From: "Pompeia Cornelia Strabo" <scriba_forum@hotmail.com>
Date: Thu, 10 Jan 2002 00:00:17 +0000

Ex Officium Pompeia Cornelia Strabo Omnibus Novae Romae S.P.D.

I come before you, stolate, with head covered, to offer the following
tribute.

As the Praetores of Antiquita gave honour to the one known as Apollo, so
shall I, as Praetor of Nova Roma 2755 AUC.

On behalf of the office of the Praetor, and to the glory of all the Roman
people,

I hereby offer a toast of fine Pannonian Chardonnay in honour of Apollo.

Apollo, the deity known in antiquita by many names, and in many places
throughout the ancient world.

Known as the God of prophesy, healing, the arts: music, poetry, drama, and
other virtuous pursuits.

In Nova Roma, he is a Pantheon Deity of the Religio Romana, our state
religion. For those citizens who see the divine through different paths, we
can marvel at the legacies we enjoy today through the faith and patronage of
Apollo by our ancestors. And we can further marvel at the means by which he
is placated in our time. Alas, he is a space program, he is a hospital
chain, he is a military civil defence tactic, he is a small jewellry
company.......he has never left our contemporary culture, has he?
Remembered in great diversity, he is nonetheless remembered. In either case,
it would seem he is indeed, immortal, nonne?

By all that is perceived divine and virtuous, it is my prayer that our
populace will meet with blessing, abundance, justice and a stronger sense of
connection and conviction as a community. May we enjoy friendship and fun.

I pray that I will achieve all that I should for Nova Roma as Praetor,
together with my future colleague, and Accensii, in the execution of justice
and virtue, and in the completion of the specific tasks set before me.

The Praetores of Antiquita held Ludi each year in honour of Apollo.
This year, myself and this year's Aediles, wish to make this a reality in
Nova Roma for the enjoyment of all.

Dated, Ian IX, 2755 AUC, in the Consulship of Marcus Octavius Germanicus et
Lucius Cornelius Sulla Felix II

---Salve Luci Pompei:

This is an exciting discovery; I would indeed be interested in seeing
the statue, whenever it can be arranged.

It is often amazing how we find Rome in our own backyard, no?

Be well,
Pompeia Cornelia

Salvete omnes

The Great White North is not without statuary, oh no.

In THE MALL, there is a replica (I think it is actual size) of the emperor
Augustus of the Prima Porta. It is located at the end of the Phase 3 food
court, by the mini-golf course and Caesar's Bingo Palace.

Perhaps you could include this photo of mine (if you don't think that
it is not serious enough, that is). Although it makes me look fatter...
