Salvete omnesque mi Germanica!

At the risk of sounding a bit harsh, I would hazard that this type of
question may best be asked in private. Marcus Octavius Solaris has
come to us as a privatus, and desires no more than to participate in
our Res Publica as such. It serves neither Prudentia nor Concordia to
inquire about private decisions in public fora. Please, amica, let it
be.

Marcus Octavius Solaris, welcome back. I for one am glad you return
to us, and look forward to future discourse with you. Count on me as
a friend, if you will - we may have disagreed in the past, and may
yet disagree on many things; but nothing prevents us from being
gentlemen about it.

Optime valete in pace Deorum,
Marius Cornelius Scipio

Salve Marcus Minucius,

<ROFL!> That sounds about right! The people out here
are as fervent in their support of Australian Rules
Football as many people are die-hard supporters of
soccer teams. In fact, out here, our Prime Ministers
usually call an election around Grand Final time so
that they don't have to worry overly much about last
minute campaigning, as everyone is too busy watching
the Grand Final!:-))

It is extraordinarly difficult for anyone holding a high office
in another organization to simultaenously devote himself to
Nova Roma. Thus, the former Draco had chosen to return as a
privatus, and to avoid politics here, but continue to take part
in our cultural activities.

As we had anticipated that he would receive harsh criticism from
both groups, we had hoped that he could return quietly and with
little fanfare. That, unfortunately, did not happen; his identity
was broadcast to our mailing list and to theirs.

That damage cannot be undone; but please respect his desire
to remain among us as a private citizen.

Valete, Octavius.

Salve Frater:

Indeed, your evaluation of the need to bring this into the open
parallels mine. You have such a kind, yet honest way of expressing
things, Frater Scipio.

It seems to me that Draco evaluated the things which were making him
unhappy in Nova Roma, namely the politicals, and has decided to make a
new start and come back as a privatus.

We are perpetually saying that Romans do not resign, but, alas, Romans
are human too. the 9-day waiting period is a period for us to come to
terms with our "humanity" and evaluate whether or not we want to
leave, or stay. Why it should never be waivable.

I wish you well too. Solaris. It takes courage to come back, and I
applaude it. And, it is hardly easy (and I don't mean this in a mean
way) to be *you*........namely, 19 going on 35! Therefore I reserve
judgement on you on all but the most necessary and stingent of
circumstances.

Bene vale,
Pompeia Cornelia

Salve Scipio!

Well, in the first place I didn't have his private e-mailadress so it was
kind of difficult to ask him this in private...
... and second since this was publicly known I just wanted to ask this in
public (surely I'm not the only one who was wondering about this.)

Besides what about honesty, sincerity, dedication and loyalty to Nova Roma,

Salvete!

I know this might seem out of place on this particular mailing list,
but I'm looking for a map of the Roman Empire around the third
century AD (i.e. when the greatest area was covered). I know there is
a site that displays this, but the image is too fuzzy as it was
scanned, I need something I can read! If anyone knows of such a map,
or has a better place for me to post this message, please RE:!

Thanks in advance!

Salvete omnes,

The exact reason why I did not wish to announce my return was because
of the - justified and understandable - reactions of doubt. Despite
my wish to not have it out in the open for a while, some blockhead
has not been able to honour that humble request and told it to people
that weren't even supposed to know. The consequences were
predictable, and again, understandable.

For that person who has ashamed my trust (I don't know who it is but
I only have a list of six people to choose from): I despise you.

To those who doubt my return: they have every right to do so. I have
nearly walked out of this place twice, and twice for more or less the
same reasons (with much at stake). Twice, the same people have
convinced me to return. But, the consequences are different. The
first time I returned, I intended to give myself once more in the
political life. Now I return to devote myself to the Religio and
culture alone, and do not have any political ambitions. In order to
make this change concrete, I have changed my name into M. Octavius
Solaris.

I don't beg for trust, grace or mercy, because there's none to be
found, and I wouldn't want it, either.

Valete bene,
M. Octavius Solaris

Salve, Solaris!

I have discovered your return myself. I regularly check out the provincia
Gallia list and have noticed we had a new legatus (I mean a name that didn't
ring a bell). I have checked out the email address and it is yours, of
course. I am the one who brought this into the open. I think it is every
citizen's right, and especially the right of the cives of Gallia, to know
who their representatives are.

So may I ask you to stop looking for other people, whomever they might be.
You haven't asked me for my thrust, you haven't even told me about your
planned return. So please don't play the martyr here. Yesterday, I
apologised to you already, but I don't want to be called a blockhead or
whatever. If you have a fight to fight, fight it in the open, and not like a
coward in the dark!

I will stop aiming at you personally, since this has no meaning to me. But
please don't look with suspicion at these 'certain people'. They have dealt
with the issue correctly. They haven't told anyone. And I don't need anyone
to tell me that you came back, everyone can check out the site.

I have seen a lot of people are glad you came back. I welcomed you as well,
as in private as in public. Please don't start with a hugue fanfare as you
left, don't shout at people like you did then. Accept the apologies that are
offered to you, and accept the welcoming messages. There are meant with
earnestness, as it are Romans that express them, in all openness, not
hidden...

Vale bene!

Salve Amice!

I will say just one thing. You are welcome back among us! This is your
home! I was disappointed when You left. Stupid of me, but I am glad that
You are back now, so that I can welcome You back publicly! We want Nova
Roma to grow, if citizens have difficulties to leave that shows that there
is hope for this Res Publica! I am greatful that gens Octavia have given
You a haven. Honor to them! :-)

Some decent (I mean that they really do not mean any harm) persons will
have difficulty to understand. As You say that is understandable. In this
case I think that time will indeed heal the wounds.

Salvete Quirites!

It is my pleasure to inform you about the (succesful) first meeting
of the Regio Germania Inferior.

We finally had the possibility to meet eachother face to face, to get to
know eachother better and talk about the future of this part of NR
we live in.

At this very moment things are getting very interesting in Germania
Inferior since we have experienced the rise of SVR (from which some
members are also civis of NR didn't show up at our meeting
eventually)...

We also discussed our position in Gallia of which we are part of
today. Most of our cives agree that the fact that the regio
Germania Inferior is part of the Provincia Gallia, is from a
historical point of view not correct. Some of us (though we respect
Lutecio highly) also felt little connection to the mostly
frenchspeaking Provincia Gallia since the cives in Flanders and the
Netherlands are dutchspeaking.

Last but not least I would like to wish you all a happy New Year and May the
Gods of Ancient Rome guide and protect Nova Roma!

valete bene!
Agrippina Iulia Germanica

Salve Caius
First of all, i know that you apologized about this
lettre but i want to remind you like you once did with
me, that it isn't our place to judge when someone
leaves Nova Roma and comes back. I did it and nobody
bother to say anything about it. You should do the
same thing. He gave up alot, yes but he must have his
reasons and if he doesn't want to share them with us.
I'm not gona. I though there was a law for people
coming back to Nova Roma for the third time but under
the same name, which was not allowed. I gues that
Draco/ Solaris knew this and changed his name for this
reason. And what the loyalty concern: Who are you to
question his loyalty. The man has a life outside Nova
Roma and if he is to busy to show up at a provincial
meeting, it means he other obligations. I haven't
shown up either, do you complain about that. I didn't
hear you complaining about it either. So you shouldn't
complain about Draco's loyalty when the Apollonia gens
has four inactive members who do not even a damn thing
to post anything. They probaly didn't show up on the
provincial meeting either, so did i hear you complain
about that. No. So what gives you the right to
complain about his loyalty when the loyalty of so many
others should be rightfully questioned. I know that
this kind of mail makes me less popular than i'm
already are, but i say what is on my mind even though
that happend in the past in the wrong way.
Vale bene in pax deorum
Tiberius Apollonius Callias

I believe you to be Roman and a benefit to any community you chose to help.
