Salvete Omnes

I just spoke with Graecus on AOL Instant Messenger. He wanted me to
inform everyone that he will be unable to give the Religious calender
notification as he usually does due to the fact that his e-mail server
is down. He regrets this and will be back after the weekend.

There are two bits of law here. (1) "Pacta sunt servanda": contracts are
binding. This is so fundamental a rule of law that the only actual legal
authority for it is elementary student textbooks and philosophical writers:
in court it just goes without saying.
(2) Contracts contain what are called "implied terms". This is a
very tricky area of law. The civil law countries have masses of implied
terms corresponding to different kinds of contracts - sale, hire,
employment, etc., Common law countries have some terms implied by
legislation, but also a general rule allowing the court to imply terms if
they are "necessary for the business efficacy of the contract". Thus in
your example it is NOT an implied term that the bus will stop at its
regular stops, since it might be full or late (I could find English case
law for this if you would be amused by it...) and it is usually an express
term in the form of notices on the bus, that passengers will not smoke/
vandalise the seats/ etc., rather than an implied term.

M. Mucius Scaevola Magister

I saw the movie last week finally. Yes, all of you were right in
saying this was a really good film and also quite respective of Roman
paganism.

There was also a documentary not all that long ago on the Romans. It
was some sort of series that seemed to go on all afternoon. Though I
didn't see all of it, I must have caught about 3 hours worth. A lot of
it seemed to be filmed in Britannia talking about the Roman frontier and
how the army patrolled a good distance beyond Hadrians Wall and the
frontiers in Germania. Tons of stuff on everyday living conditions that
I was fascinated with. I was wondering if anyone else already saw this?
Walking through Barnes and Nobles the other day I notices they were
selling the complete set of tapes.

Salve Gaius Drusus Domitianus

The program you are talking about is called "Rome:The Power and the Glory".
It is six hours long and I found it to be good viewing since I taped it and
have watched it about ten times. If you would like to know more about it
email me and I will try to help you.
