Salvete!

Putting my oar in for the first time in ages (term is coming to an end and
teaching winding down; I've been lurking since October because overwhelmed
with work).

Palladius wrote, inter alia,

>Age limits were and
are (will be if the law passes) a part of the cursus honorum, however,
and should be viewed as integral to the system. <

I am some way from being convinced by these exchanges that a virtual
organisation like NR can or should operate age limits. TIME IN CITIZENSHIP
limits, yes: this can be easily checked and also reflect cives' commitment
to NR and experience of NR's functioning. But us oldies seem to me to be
just as likely to take on jobs we can't handle (myself, as I see it in
retrospect) or flounce off over disagreements (several other people in the
last year!) - and how the hell are we going to check up on people's claims
about their age???

Salvete!

What lies behind this business of changing laws in the course of voting ...
as far as I can infer from Lintott's account of the tribunes, one of their
primary functions in the later Republic was to veto leges which had not
been adequately pre-discussed from going forward for the vote. It is
convenient to combine convening the Comitia for elections, and convening
them for leges, but if it means leges get presented to the Comitia without
a prior contio and opportunity for revision, we should shift to legislating
separately from elections.

Salvete!

Gn. Tarquinius Caesar and myself, C. Aelius Ericius Propraetor of
California Provincia,
the only two known to be active citizens in the northern part of
California, met yesterday.
It was primarily for the purpose of discussing the presentation at the
Pantheacon in February.
When we realized that we were the known it {therefore the IT} in
northern California,
it was decided to declare it the Second Provincia meeting of the year.

(Yes, Gangalius is up here, but he has not been heard of by us
Californians for a while --
not even when I send him stuff on Mars! <grin> )
We met in the first basement level of the San Francisco State
University Student Union.
Discussed our project for a few hours. We then adjourned the Business
section of our Program.
We went to another part of the first basement to have coffee and spend
several hours discussing
Nova Roma, Past Present and Future. It was a very productive and
rewarding day.
While we plan to meet again in the future, for further planning of the
Pantheacon Presentation,
those meetings will not be official Provincia get togethers as they
will be after I, C. Aelius Ericius,
have laid down my office as Propraetor of California Provincia (which
includes Nevada).
They could be considered an Ad Hoc Committee of the Collegium
Pontificum, and/or other stuff.

Felicitas.
Valete.
C. Aelius Ericius
Propraetor of California Provincia (which includes Nevada)
Augur, Member of the College of Pontiffs, Senator of Nova Roma
and actually a nice guy.

Salve,

As soon as the Rogators report their conclusions, it is then reported to the
Consuls. When that is complete and all issues settled then it is reported
to the People via the List and message board.

Salvete omnes...

A little squirreling-around in my e-mail folders has produced the
following (and thank you, Consul Palladius, for answering this question
the last time it came up...I believe your colleague was at work that
evening, too?):

<---- Begin Forwarded Message ---->
From: Decius Iunius Palladius <a href="/post/novaroma?protectID=243232219108127031050199203252129208071" >amcgrath@--------</a>

Salvete! The times for the election are as follows:

Comitia Centuriata:
=====================
Sunday, Dec. 5, 1700 EST (2300 "Official" Roman Time, 1400 Pacific
Time) to Sunday, 19 December, 1700 EST (2300 Roman Time, 1400 Pacific
Time).

Comitia Populi Tributa:
=====================
Sunday, December 5, 1700 EST (2300 Official Roman Time, 1400 Pacific
Time) to Monday, 13 December, 1700 EST (2300 Roman Time, 1400 Pacific
Time).

Comitia Plebis Tributa:
=====================
I would recommend to the Tribunes the same schedule as the Comitia
Populi Tributa since the law that govern the time frame for both is the
same.

Valete,

Decius Iunius Palladius,
Consul

<---- End Forwarded Message ---->

Since then, IIRC, the Tribune of the Plebs has in fact agreed to match
the duration of voting in the Comitia Plebis to match that of the
Comitia Populi.
