Well, I had my first group of students who visited the
Pompeii Exhibition at the LA County Art Museum hand in
their reports today--AND THEY LOVED IT!! They said,
even if they weren't getting extra credit for the
visit, they still would have found it very enjoyable
(except for, that is, getting stuck in evening rush
hour traffic back from the Westside). They were very
impressed with the exhibit, and didn't realize "that
the Romans were so advanced." Unfortunately, as some
of you know, the exhibit will only be shown in this
country here in L.A., but there is another site, based
in Italy (in English) which gives a good summary and
some great pictures. There is also a catalogue and
CD-ROM you can get to go with it. The site is at:

Salve, Murena!

I want to give you my own thanks for posting this message.
I have been trying to get some information on the exhibit,
eyewitness accounts as well as who has gone to see it,
from Q. Fabius. I appointed Fabius my legate in Los Angeles
right after I heard about the Pompeii exhibit being scheduled in
the LA County Art Museum hoping that he would be able to get good info,
but have received no response to my recent queries.
I'm still holding out the hope that I will be able to swing a visit to
the exhibit before it closes. It is a long shot, but hope lingers.
I was thinking that if a group of Nova Romans were going to make an
outing of it, and if my money cooperated, I might try a red-eye sortie to
the southerm part of this provincia.

For those of you who are within striking distance of Los Angeles,
the exhibit runs through the first week of January 2000 (2753 a.u.c.)
Tickets are $15 for adults. The LACAM website said they had a
discount for groups of 15 or so. I have no idea how easy,
or difficult the tickets are to obtain. That is a piece of information that

I was not able to get from the website (other than by joining the museum -
LOL).
Once again, Here is the link for the museum:

Once again,Varro Murena, thank you.

Valete omnes.

in December....When some plans on our end are finalized we will be notifying the

attending.....and hopefully making an event of it.

Salvete.

Is Fabius doing all right? I haven't heard from my Legate in a long time. On this
or other matters except for the occasional post since the election. Maybe you could
pass the word among the others in that area for a regio gathering. A lot of us are
very interested in that sort of thing. Eh? LOL. I also thoroughly understand
wanting to visit such an exhibit in a small group. Meeting old friends and visiting
old haunts can also be an intimate affair.
I'd not wait too long... the holidays are upon us and time will become very
compressed and people will lose track of their schedules. (e.g. "Saturnalia is NEXT
week?" LOL)

Bene valete.
