I have a question for any and all who can answer...

I was having a discussion with a christian friend on-line and it turned into
a discussion of Rome during the time of Jesus.

Does anyone know who was the Emperor of Rome during Jesus's time? My friend
thinks it is Julius Ceasar...I'm pretty sure it was Augustus Ceasar. I'm
very bad with dates which is why I can't say for certain. But being that
Julius was never "Emperor", I'm siding with Augustus on that one...but this
may be a technicality.

Anyway...any of our historians can say for certain?

It needs no historian to answer that, Dexippe. Augustus was Emperor
for the first 14 yrs, and Tiberius for the rest.

I need to let everybody know (and I sure hope I got everybody) that the
address of the Sodalis Pro Infantia has changed. I found a free service that
didn't force those pop-up adds on me and so I moved. The home should be
relatively permanant, as it gives me 10 megs. I won't be moving it until I
get there anyway <G>.

Please change any links to the site. I thank you.

As always, the muse Clio comes to the rescue. Tiberius was Imperator from 14
until 37 CE. (Just checked that on our in-the-throws-of-being-updated
website :-) ). That would make him reigning Emperor during the time in
question.

The historical son of Joseph was born during the emperor Augustus' (27 BCE 14

A very good question. I think it is a little bit later but I am not sure.
For sure, I think it is not Julius Ceasar. He had other things in mind
like the gaulois and Cleopatra.

Salvete Omnes!

As our good Quaestrix Patricia Cassia mentioned yesterday, stewardship of
the web site has passed back to Yours Truly and I've hit the ground running.
A number of changes and improvements have already been made (including the
addition of a number of photos throughout the Reenactors section courtesy of
our esteemed Consul Cincinnatus), but there's a lot more coming in upcoming
weeks.

I am calling for any of you out there with experience in web page design or
the desire to learn to join the Nova Roma web team. In essence, we need
folks with an interest in a particular subject covered by one of the
sections of the web site that would be willing to come in and administer
that particular piece of the site. At the moment, we have:

Flavius Vedius Germanicus: General site coordinator
Patricia Cassia (in conjunction with Marcus Cassius Julianus): Religio
Romana section
Marcus Martialis Gangalius: Camenaeum section

This leaves a lot of room for anyone out there with the interest in helping
the web site grow. If you think you'd be interested in such a task (and will
have the time necessary to pursue it; at least a couple of hours a week),
please let the web team k-------- Our email address is <a href="/post/--------roma?protectID=125056250165056031072218066036129208" >webteam@--------</a>.
We're looking for folks to help with:

- The Cursus Honorum section (politics, politics, politics-- it may be slow
now, but wait 'till the elections!)
- The Macellum section (seek out new merchants and help existing members of
the Equestrian Order sell their wares)
- The Photo Gallery section (gather photos from Nova Roman and related
gatherings)
- The (new) Reenactors section (information, photos, and diagrams on putting
together clothing, arms and armor for reenactments)
- The Via Romana section (the everyday side of Roman life; philosophy, food
and drink, games, etc.)

And for those who can't participate, keep an eye on the web site in the next
few weeks. There's lots of good stuff a-coming!

Valete,

Germanicus

Of course, I was thinking about the "ministry" years... His birth would have
been during the reign of Augustus. (As a couple of others have pointed
